Visiting a new church can be intimidating – even for people
who have been around church their entire life. Will the people there
be friendly… accepting? Will I fit in, or at least not stand
out too much? What kind of things will be going on & what, if
anything will be expected of me?
Well, we’d
tell you not to worry, but we know you will anyway. Instead, we’ll
try to lesson your anxiety by answering some frequently asked questions
& telling you a little bit about TCN & the people that call
it their church.
Sound good?

Sunday
at TCN:
9:15
am & 10:45 am – Sunday School: Not as scary as the word
“school” implies - All are welcome to meet together
in various small group settings to learn more about the Bible, discuss
relevant topics & strengthen friendships.
9:15 am &
10: 45 am – Worship Service: This is the time every week we
get together corporately to see friends, sing songs, spend time
in prayer & learn about God. As a TCN-newbe, this is a great
time to meet people & get the flavor of the church.
2:00 pm –
Uncaged Motorcycle Ride: As it happens, many people at TCN are into
bikes. If that describes you, we’d love to have you join us
at the church for our weekly group ride. (Seasonal)

What
does the church believe?
The Nazarene church espouses considerably conventional protestant
evangelical doctrine (I just wanted to see how many big words I
could use.) In other words: God loves the world, Jesus saves, hell
is hot, forever is a really long time. For a more in-depth look
at what we believe & why, Click

What
kind of people attend TCN… Will I fit it?
Yes! TCN is made up of people just like you, whether you’ve
been in church your entire life or have never stepped foot in one.
We come from all kinds of backgrounds and professions, blue collar,
white collar…no collar. Come as you are & we’ll
do the same.

What
should I wear?
Wear what you feel comfortable wearing. On any given Sunday at TCN
you’ll see people in jeans, shorts & T-shirts, & other
people in suits & ties… in other words, wearing what they
feel comfortable wearing. We do our best to be accepting of everyone…
even those strange people who wear ties.

What
can I expect from a Sunday Service?
Worried about snake handling & strychnine drinking? (a little
church humor…don’t worry.) Sunday Worship Service is
a great place for a TCN-newbe to meet people & get a feel for
the church. If you’ve been in a protestant church before,
the format will seem very familiar. Starting out with announcements
& Praise & Worship singing led by our worship band, we have
a time of prayer & offering before Pastor Rollison brings
the sermon. (Which, by the way, is always really good ...something
I can say since I'm not being paid to write this.) Once a month
or so we have a communion service with bread & juice - but that’s
about as weird as things get.

What
can I expect from a Home Group?
This is a time to connect with other believers on a deeper level
of friendship & accountability. While formats vary from group
to group, most get together to informally study the Bible, get to
know one another better & HAVE FUN! Discussions range from the
week’s sermon to pertinent issues being faced by group members.

What
is going on at TCN for my children?
There is always something going on for children, youth, & teens
at TCN. On Sundays, Sunday School classes cater to all age groups
& Children’s Church communicates God’s love during
Morning Worship to children to a way they can understand. Sunday
nights the Troy Naz Teens group – TNT – gets fired up
to learn about God & service while having a great time. During
the school year, Power Kids for school age children up to fifth
grade, pares children with an adult for a time of tutoring and encouragement.

I don’t
want to be embarrassed… what will be expected of me as a visitor?
We guarantee we won’t make you stand up, call out your name
or otherwise single you out in any way. That said, there’s
a good chance some folks might say “Hi” when you come
in, as we’re a fairly friendly bunch. In your bulletin you’ll
find a tear off section that we would love to have you fill out
with your name and contact info… not that we’re going
to be stalking you or anything, but we would really like to get
to know you & your family. Just drop the card in the offering
plate when it comes by – which by the way – is the only
thing we would like for you to put in. We have a time of offering
each week as a way for regular attendees to support the ministry
& give back to God a portion of what he has blessed us with,
what the Bible calls Tithing. Many disenfranchised Christians tend
to think that all the church is interested in is money, a rumor
that, at least at TCN, we would like to dispel.

What
is going on at TCN for my youth?
We have an exciting program designed to teach your student how
to worship, grow, and serve in junior high and high school. On
Sunday mornings during the 9:15am service students congregate
in small groups then worship during the 10:45am service. Each
Sunday Night of the month is different for your student at TCN
while each week we meet from 6:00pm-8:00pm. The first Sunday Night
we gather for The Gathering_Worship at Night Sky Coffee House
(Market Street, Downtown Troy) for student led worship. The second
Sunday Night we bring our friends with us to The Gathering at
The REC (Market Street, Downtown Troy). The third Sunday Night
is The Gathering_Serve where we serve others by doing a service
project to the community. The fourth Sunday Night, The Gathering_Home,
we build relationships with our parents at home, the student pastor
provides the activity, the parents block out the time to do it.
Wednesday Nights at TCN is 2:42 where we get into the Word of
God for deeper learning and discipleship forming.

connected.
